Historic Name QUANAH PARKER STAR HOUSE
Description of Significance HOME OF QUANAH PARKER, LAST WARRIOR CHIEF OF THE QUAHADA COMANCHE AND FIRST RECOGNIZED CHIEF OF ALL THE COMANCHES. THE QUAHADA BAND SURRENDERED IN 1875 AND MOVED ONTO A RESERVATION NEAR FORT SILL. AFTER ALLOTEMNT OF THE RESERVATION LAND IN 1892, QUANAH PARKER CONSTRUCTED THIS LARGE, TWO STORY HOUSE NEAR EAGLE MOUNTAIN FOR HIMSELF AND HIS FIVE WIVES. THE HOUSE IS DISTINCTIVE FOR ITS WRAP AROUND PORCH AND THE LARGE WHITE STARS THAT BEDECK THE ROOF. LISTED IN NATIONAL REGISTER 10/29/70.
